Future Research on Pediatric Non-Fatal Drowning will include:

  • Extending knowledge with larger studies.

  • Applying imaging techniques to many other conditions impairing consciousness.

  • Identifying mechanisms for efficient, consistent, and universal 2-way communication for PNFD patients and other individuals with cognitive impairment that severely limits their ability to speak and move (e.g. ALS).

  • Investigating interventions to the damaged area of PNFD patients (e.g. deep brain stimulation).

  • Investigating interventions immediately following the accident to stop/slow the damage to the motor function.
